Tortoishell
and gilt pair cased verge by Hassenius of London, c.1700.
The outer case is covered in pinned tortoishell.
Overall condition is very good noting some period repairs. It is intact and
there are no areas uncovered. Hinges are fine and the case button works nicely.
The inner case is gilt with expected areas of wear. Note the fine ribbed
detailing to the long neck. Overall condition rated
at 95% mint; please request additional images if interested. This is a lovely
early piece. The mint white enamel dial is most likely a contemporary
replacement c.1760 when the champleve dials where falling from fashion as are
the gold hands. The movement is superb. A very deep fire gilt full plate verge
signed Hassenius of London with a wide broad pierced D foot winged balloon
balance with small birds to the main table. The silvered Tompion regulator is
marked from 1-6. Superbly executed split tulip pillars and decorative stop work.
Worm and barrel set-up between the plates. A very fine early 18thC piece in
working order. Total size: 49mm x 29mm. Key wind and set. £1995 ($3990)
James Hassenius is a listed maker who was free of the Clockmakers
Company in 1682. Examples of his work are held in the Dennison Collection
and Greenwich Museum.
