E.J. DENT of LONDON, 1915, Solid 18ct Gold Gentleman’s Half Hunting
cased Pocket Watch with original fitted box. Great piece in superb condition! £SOLD
Solid
18ct gold English made half hunter
case of good weight and proportions. All covers are solid 18ct gold and
hallmarked accordingly; front cover, back cover and internal dustcover. All
hinges are tight and the case opens and closes nice and positively. The front
fly spring is fine and when the crown is depressed the front cover flips crisply
open to 90 degrees. The case is fully hallmarked for London 1914/15.
(lower cased t to the front cover and u to the back cover. Both covers have the
same serial number of 267.) The case has a smooth finish and has a Royal Blue
enamelled chapter ring to the dial aperture. The back cover the original
owner’s initials of an entwined R, E and G. The internal 18k dustcover has
been neatly engraved; Ruldoph E. Gane
on his 21st birthday October 31st 1915.
The
white enamel dial is in mint condition. It is neatly signed;

And retains the original blued
steel double spade half hunter hands.
The movement is a
very fine fire gilt brass English ¾ plate lever escapement with tangential
pallets, brass ratchet tooth scape, compensated balance with rose gold timing
screws, bright steel regulator to the back of the cock and ruby endstone in a
bright steel collar. The movement is
neatly signed;

The watch is stem wind and pin
set. Size: It measures 49mm in diameter excluding the stem, 61mm to the top of
the stem and 13mm deep.
Box: A
real rarity in its own right! This is the original fully signed and fitted box
for this piece. The box has a wooden frame with a burgundy leather covering to
the outside with gold tooling. The hinges and front button are all present and
functioning correctly. The top of the box is neatly embossed in gold;

The interior of the box has a
champagne silk top embossed in Royal blue with the Royal Warrant crown and other
coats of arms. The crest reads;

The base of the box is lined with
a plush dove grey velvet with a fitted recess to hold the watch firmly. The
inside of this recess has an additional compartment space beneath the watch to
hold a chain and fob.
The box measures 12cm x 10.2cm x
3.5cm.
