Victorian folding brass pocket magnifying glass. Ingenious idea, but clearly one that didn't take off! Compacted size of 55mm extending to 95mm when opened. £95 ($190)

Small Georgian ‘simple’ or pocket microscope. This is a beautifully crafted little piece with a brass body, two lenses and a turned ebony handle.  The brass end is approx 22mm deep and has a screw threaded Coddington style lens at each end. Both of the brass lens mounts have a ribbed edge to them. We managed to unscrew one end, but the other is very tight. Looking through the lenses at an object held close up to it the magnification is quite astounding!!  Total length of this piece is just 74mm and it sits very nicely in the hand. £350 ($700)
