Negretti & Zambra cased set of Max & Min Thermometers
c.1893. This rather splendid set comes complete with the original fitted oak
box lined with plush blue velvet. The top of the box has the original owners
details inked in and reads; Two Standard Thermometers, Max, Min, 75725 &
75726 (Kew 1893) Rev. T.H. Foulkes M.A. Chaplain to the Forces.
The two thermometers are indeed nos. 75725 and 75726. Both are mounted on
boxwood with twin swing catches to the back ready for placement. One scale runs
from -10 to +140 degrees and the other from -20 to +130 degrees. Superb outfit.

Negretti & Zambra desk Weather Forecaster. A unique and rare brass weather forecaster based on Negretti's 1915 Patent No. 6276. The instrument has a circular brass frame and 2 rotating discs for setting the Wind Direction. Barometric Pressure and Direction of Barometric Changes. The directions for use are engraved on the font disc. The interpretation of the results is given with the 60 possible forecasting sentences engraved on the middle disc. -The smaller pocket version has only 26. Construction is lacquered brass with a black japanned brass easel desk stand. Diameter is approx. 12cm. £SOLD
Low Speed Anemometer by Griffin & George c.1940. It's not often one of these pieces comes in quite a complete set as this! The instrument retains the original leather case, spigot, instructions, and last correction card dated 1984. The signed silvered dial reads; Low Speed Air Meter to 1000 Feet, No. L2062, Griffin & George Ltd. The fins looks to be a celluloid compound. Nice piece. Case size:10.5cm x 9cm x 9cm. £SOLD
Ministry of Works issue whirling hygrometer by Negretti &
Zambra c.1915.
Original stained ply transit case containing instrument, copper slip cover
and spare thermometer in case. Original NZ ivorine calculation card also
present. The instrument is fully signed for Negretti & Zambra London and is
also etched with 'M.O.W.' for Ministry of Works and 'H.M.29'. A nice original

Mathematical, Optical and Philosophical Instrument maker to HRH Queen Victoria and the Prince Consort. Worked 1850+ London Possibly the most prolific high quality instrument makers of the 19th Century. The partnership between Henry Negretti and Joseph Zambra was formed in 1850. They were quickly established as a leading manufacturer of meteorological instruments with a prize medal at the 1851 Great Exhibition. As well as domestic pieces the firm offered a comprehensive range of barometric instruments including mercury, aneroid, Gay-Lussac and Fortin, marine, mountain, agricultural, Fitzroy and pocket sized walking ones.

Casella of London cased Whirring hygrometer. Beech frame with white metal fittings, leather case and original signed mercury thermometers. (This instrument is used to determine % relative humidity). Nice condition. C.1940-60. £90 ($180)
