Welcome
to the Fossack and Furkle Website
We are independent dealers in Cambridge, England,
specialising in: Antique pocket watches, Timepieces and Scientific
Instruments.
Sales Policy
All our mechanical pieces (EXCLUDING ELECTRICAL DEVICES) are guaranteed to be in working order unless otherwise noted when we ship them. If you would like further information or more detailed images on a piece then please contact us.
Watches
All watches will have undergone a routine manual strip down, clean and service
and timing. To this end 'Good condition' and 'good timekeeping' means as good as
can be expected with respect to the age of the pieces sold. These are used
antique and vintage timepieces and not capable of Quartz accuracy. If you
require additional information or advice about a piece then please ask! Remember, these
pieces were largely hand made for an estimated 'life' of some 30 years. A good quality lever movement may be tuned to within 5-15 minutes a day, a
cylinder to within 5-30 and a verge around 15-50. Many of these pieces are of
museum quality and not suitable for everyday use.
Please understand that we can not make lasting guarantees on these antique
mechanical devices...they can last for many years to come with careful
handling...or they can breakdown in a week or so...we just can't predict. If you
are in any doubt as to the suitability of the piece you are considering or are
new to the field of collecting watches then please contact us for further
information and advice. We would rather you did not buy than choose a piece
wholly unsuitable for your requirements. If the watch is not working when you
receive it then send it back to us within 7 days for a full refund of the price
paid. DO NOT try to fix the item yourself or allow any third party to do so, we
will not refund you if the goods have been interfered with. All our pieces are
thoroughly documented before shipping.
Optical Instruments
We pride ourselves on having a representative selection of pieces from across
the ages, and this includes those that were 'destined to fail' due to intrinsic
design faults. If you would like further information on any piece before
committing yourself please do contact us. We would rather you did not buy than
purchase a piece wholly unsuitable for your requirements.
Electrical Equipment & Surgical
Instruments
These pieces are NOT INTENDED FOR USE. They are sold as exhibition only artefacts
and SHOULD NOT BE USED. If you intend to use these pieces PLEASE DO NOT BUY THEM. If we
believe they are being purchased with the intention of use we reserve the right
to refuse the sale.
